During the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center, Gal Gadot expressed her thoughts on her upcoming role as the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action version of Snow White. In an interview with Deadline, Gadot shared that this role is unlike any she has played before, as she is used to portraying the hero rather than the villain. However, she found it to be a “delightful” experience to get into the character and explore the iconic villain’s mindset. Gadot made it clear that the Evil Queen is far from her real-life personality but nonetheless enjoyed playing the role.
In a recent interview, the 37-year-old star of Wonder Woman discussed her experience working on an eagerly awaited film and how portraying a villain was new territory for her on screen. Specifically, she played the role of The Evil Queen in Snow White (1937).
Unfamiliar: Gadot explained to Deadline that the character she portrayed was entirely unfamiliar to her, and that it was unlike anything she had done before. She mentioned that typically she takes on roles where her character lacks emotion or empathy, whereas this one was quite the opposite.
Gadot expressed her delight in playing an iconic villain despite typically being cast as a heroine. Meanwhile, Zegler, who stars in West Side Story, shared her excitement about playing Snow White in the upcoming adaptation of the classic animated film. According to Zegler, her character is on a quest for agency so she can become a just ruler and an excellent queen. She added that it was an honor to modernize the beloved movie. The live-action version of Snow White has been in development since 2016, and Marc Webb signed on to direct three years later.
Rachel Zegler expressed her excitement and gratitude for being cast as the iconic Disney princess in the upcoming Snow White movie. Gal Gadot and Zegler were announced as the film’s lead actors in June 2020, while Greta Gerwig joined as a co-writer for the screenplay in November of the same year. In addition to these stars, Andrew Burnap and Martin Klebba will also be part of the cast, with roles including Grumpy.
Gadot and Zegler were announced as the two leading ladies of the Snow White live-action adaptation back in June of last year. However, the physical production of the movie was initially scheduled to start in 2020 but was delayed due to the global pandemic. Fortunately, the filming finally began in March of this year and went on for several months until the project’s crew wrapped things up in July. Fans of the classic fairytale will have to wait a little longer, as the movie is set to make its debut in 2024.
