The NBA made a new rule for the 2019-20 season that players should be measured without shoes to determine their official height. This was a change in policy.
Victor Wembanyama’s height may have increased since he last reported it in October. The San Antonio Spurs revealed that the official height of this year’s number one draft pick is 7 feet, 3-1/2 inches without shoes, which is a half-inch taller than Wembanyama’s self-reported height of 2.21 meters. He has been listed on different sites as anywhere between 7-foot-2 and 7-foot-5, making him one of the tallest NBA players ever. The NBA listed him at 7-foot-4 in its guide for last week’s draft, but that was not based on any official measurement. Wembanyama was unable to attend the recent NBA Draft Combine in Chicago because his team’s season in France was still ongoing. However, the Spurs obtained his official height when he arrived in San Antonio last weekend.
